Quevedo Zendejas, M.D. at Centro Médico de Especialidades (CME) in Mexico, I have been given the opportunity to shadow him at least twice a week for the last four years during different surgical procedures. Other opportunities this position include among other things, are learning and assisting Dr. Quevedo with physical examinations and documentation of vital signs for his patients. During the six week duration of this internship I had an opportunity to gain a broader perspective of what being a medical student means. Some of the opportunities I was able to take advantage while being at UTMB where : ➢Introduction to the Medical School lifestyle and real life medical school situations. ➢Received Clinical Experience at The Primary Care Pavilion as a mentee for Dr. Cyndi Lyou. ➢Received vigorous classes, which included Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. ➢Orientation with regards to the application process to medical school, as well as personal statement mentoring sessions, and mock interviews opportunities with faculty from The University of Texas Medical Branch. ➢First Aid, CPR, and AED certification by the American Heart Association. While I was at UTMB I also had different opportunities to reach out to the community of Galveston, Texas, by volunteering at diverse events such as “Senior Citizens Food Box Distribution at Gulf Breeze”, “21st Annual AADE Fishing Tournament Shrimp Boil for the benefit of the Children’s center Inc.” and “St. Vincent’s House”.
