Bio
Shannon Brown
Ed and I have worked together for many years at B&W. His background and wealth of knowledge in combustion, boilers, and flue gas chemistry is vast and deep. When working with him, he is very collaborative, and always willing to offer technical counsel, mechanical design aid, or to lend a hand. He places safety above all else, his skill sets and training both from field service and from firefighting being brought to bear on every task he undertakes. For example, he would walk down all test apparatus and check material compatibility, safety equipment, and mechanical functionality of equipment before taking it into the field, going above and beyond what was asked of him in order to ensure safe and successful operations. More than anything else, however, I was always impressed by his abilities to apply his knowledge to new areas, yielding product improvements, and for customer service. He developed and programmed combustion optimization programs, helped the environmental technologies team with new product development, designed test skids, and led field testing. When interfacing with customers, he is able to engage and bring them on board in collaborative discussion, tailoring the level of technical detail and modifying plans to meet their needs.

I developed the current curriculum for the Pump Operation and Water Supply class. I work with two assistant instructors to deliver theory and hands on instruction covering fire pump operation, engine pre-planning and water supply. I work with various vendors to get equipment and arrange the required logistics of the class. I developed the current curriculum for the Pump Operation and Water Supply class. Ohio Valley Field Service Manager (Solid Fuels)
-
Aug 2015 - Apr 2017
I developed a regional service business by developing and growing relationships with utility customers. A key responsibility was to assist customers in developing the best solution to problems they are experiencing. Along with developing customer relationships, I fostered relationships with companies that complemented the type of projects the company was pursuing. This allowed MHPSA to provided customers with broader project scopes from a single vendor. I developed a regional service business by developing and growing relationships with utility customers. I was responsible for developing proposals for small projects and then managing those projects if they became contracts. Another focus of my job was performing combustion tuning and pulverizer optimization. I worked with customers around the world to improve the operation of their boilers. I assisted with the startup of new burners installation.

Field Service Engineer/ Development Manager
-
Mar 2007 - Feb 2014
The core of the business development activities was expanding the market for B&W intelligent systems. These systems took advantage of B&W's processes, expertise, and experience to provide customers with intelligent systems for combustion and soot blowing optimization. In this roll I expanded the installed base of the intelligent soot blowing product through supporting existing customers with data and information to justify the further application of the product in their system and prospecting new customers by developing close relationships with the internal sales team and contacts within the industry. As a field service engineer I specialized in pulverizer and combustion performance and optimization. I was responsible for several large retro-fit projects including pulverizer rebuilds and upgrades, and natural gas conversion projects. Show less
