    • Software Tester
      • Jun 2016 - Jul 2016

I returned to the IDBS spreadsheet team during summer 2016. I took responsibility for the testing of curve fitting: a new piece of functionality which was being implemented into IDBS’s spreadsheet product. As the appointed lead tester in this area, I consistently ensured all necessary testing deadlines were met before the end of each sprint. I remotely liaised with a colleague from Russia as I needed to hand over my work to him before the end of my temporary contract. In addition, I led and wrote reports for a number of retrospectives for the spreadsheet team where we discussed the positives and negatives of the preceding sprint.

In 2014 I secured a year in industry as a Software Tester for this pharmaceutical solutions company. During my first six months at the company, I worked within a waterfall environment, where a new build was deployed every one to two weeks for testing. I was responsible for executing manual regression tests, raising defects with the appropriate developer and analysing automated tests. Within a couple of months, I was moved onto a high priority project, as my manager felt I was completing my work consistently and to a good standard. As a key member of this project, I was complimented for helping deliver this work on time. In January, IDBS decided to adopt an agile software delivery process. As a consequence, I was placed within the spreadsheet team, where I communicated closely with developers, testers and product owners. In this new agile environment, a build was deployed every night and I was able to flag up issues with the rest of my team within a day of the new build being available. We had daily stand-ups and fortnightly sprint planning and retrospective sessions where I voiced my opinion and provided an update of my work. I was also responsible for scripting automated suites to test new functionality and delegating testing tasks to other team members. During this period I also developed communication and organisational skills. I wrote and presented well-appreciated reports on testing and new functionality to testers and stake holders.

    • Production Assistant
      • Jun 2013 - Aug 2013

In my first fortnight at Alderley, an oil and gas metering company, I worked in the finance and accounts department and took responsibility for recording and publishing invoices. Due to my efficient and proactive attitude the company offered me a new contract as a production assistant until the end of summer. I was responsible for issuing all drawings to the necessary recipients, internally and externally to sub-contractors; and sourced and enquired for materials around the UK to meet the specification of international clients such as BP and Shell.
