The Office of Research Compliance and Assurance is responsible for the administration of research compliance in the areas of human subjects, animal care and use, biological safety, export controls, responsible conduct of research, research misconduct, conflict of interest, and other programs deemed necessary for the maintenance and assessment of essential research compliance activities. The Director’s position is responsible for managing and leading the research compliance team, development of policies, procedures and training materials related to research compliance, monitoring internal/external compliance environment, and working on compliance and responsible conduct of research issues with university committees, colleges, and departments across campus. • Develop and enforce academic research policy and oversee research compliance areas• Supervise administrative support personnel• Develop, with other senior officials, and implement comprehensive compliance program. Remain informed of changes in law, rules and regulations• Responsible for submitting assurances, reports and other required information to appropriate government agencies• Conduct compliance assurance audits for research-related institutional committees including the Institutional Animal Care and use Committee, Institutional Review Board and Institutional Biosafety Committee• Responsible for internal monitoring of approvals for the use of human research, animal research and recombinant DNA projects• Oversee and enforce HIPAA privacy and security regulations for research • Appointed Alternate Facility Official for Select Agent Program enforced by the Centers for Disease Control• Assist in the development of instructional/educational program for research units.• Assist in development of new procedures and programs to ensure regulatory compliance in research activities.
