Edinburgh This project is in collaboration with the University of Exeter and focuses on optimising the layouts of tidal arrays. Using up to 15 scale models of the Exeter Momentum Reversal Lift turbine design, I have been in charge of testing which has taken place at the FloWave test facility.

The university of Edinburgh's work has focused on field measurements of the inflow to the Alstom 1MW tidal turbine at the Fall of Warness in the European Marine Energy Center. My work as focused on the optimisation of arrays of recently available Single Beam Doppler Profilers, using them in arrays to measure the velocities at the site. I have developed a large range of post processing tools, gained a intimate working knowledge of turbulence in tidal sites and become a leading expert in use of these sensors for charecterising tidal energy sites.

      • Mar 2015 - Oct 2015

As part of an EPSRC funded knowledge exchange internship I am working with Nortek UK and FloWave to test novel uses of single beam AD2CPs (a new generation of acoustic senor). This involves designing, executing and analyzing the results of a series of tests a the FloWave facility to quantify the working parameters and uncertainties associated with different array configurations. This work follows on from my work under the ETI funded ReDAPT project.
