• Optimization of the design of a fish-safe hydro turbine utilizing CFD, adjoint methods, Multi-Disciplinary Optimization (MDO), and data analysis. • Automated a process to extract geometrical and flow features from STAR-CCM+ Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations, creating a library of designs for data analysis in python. • Data analysis on the library helped lead to a design change that increased efficiency by 2%. • Further use of adjoint to locally optimize the hydro turbine. • Created a surrogate model using a Neural Network compartmentalized into parts of a turbine. • Utilized CFD to predict cavitation in existing turbine and results were coherent with experimental data Show less
