Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) is a charitable trust which offers programmes and services that support over 6,000 grandparent and whanau care families raising more than 16,000+ children and young people (2022 figures). Our vision is to raise resilient and healthy tamariki and rangatahi by empowering grandparent and whānau care families. Our work includes advocating, empowering and equipping and supporting families. We use evidence-based trauma-informed programmes to provide best-practice strategies for parenting children affected by trauma. Our advocacy is pivotal in providing assistance and support across a broad range of issues including income support entitlements, parenting and guardianship law, care and protection, housing special needs, mental health and education. For more than 95% of the families we work with the grandparents have become full-time caregivers as a result of a traumatic event or family breakdown. The fallout for both the grandchildren and grandparents is life changing and requires a deep understanding of their needs as they work to reform their family. Central to our approach is preparing grandparents and whanau caregivers for the challenges that lie ahead and ensuring they know what support is available when needed. Show less
