True T Entertainment serves as a community platform for LGBTQ Resource Sharing, Queer Arts, and Entertainment. As young black gay men, co-founders, John Easter and Duane Binion realized the lack of necessary connections to resources, and safe spaces that offered education and entertainment. We have found too often that in this lifestyle our people feel disconnected from society and often give up hope in succeeding in life due to the lack of mentorship, comfortable spaces in which they can be 100% themselves without fear of being bashed or ridiculed, and everyday resources such as HIV/STD prevention and awareness, employment assistances, healthy productive activities to keep fit, and engagement in positive doings. The Kelly Strayhorn Theater is a destination for innovative works in dance, theater, music and live art. KST encourages diverse, inclusive, and high-quality, artistic, cultural and educational activities through the Alloy School, artSEEDS student matinees, and artist residency programs. By nurturing these pursuits, we contribute to cultural understanding, quality of life, as well as economic development in our community, county, city, and region. #LWB is a dynamic new web series being produced and shot in Pittsburgh, PA. Creator, Brittany Boyd, explores the concept of Living While Black in America through a series of semi-comedic stories dealing with relationships, the work place, mental health, and social outings. Our Mission CHS empowers individuals and families to live in stable housing, connect to community resources, build relationships, and access quality food. Our History The history of CHS dates back to the early 1970s. At that time, the South Oakland community was experiencing the same manner of change and decline as other inner city communities. The deaths of longtime residents and subsequent sale of their homes, coupled with an exodus to the suburbs of younger residents, created an atmosphere of instability. Rental property, with absentee landlords, burgeoned and the social fabric of the neighborhood weakened. As a result, a climate of mistrust and instability, along with physical deterioration of homes in the area, prevailed. Show less
