I support the development, implementation, and review of contingency plans and emergency disease preparedness activities as detailed in Good emergency management practices with a focus on the Progressive Pathway for Emergency Preparedness. This is done in collaboration with partner organizations like Washington State University (WSU), Food and agriculture organization (FAO), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), World Organization of Animal Health (WOAH), and World Health Organization (WHO) among others. I ensure the promotion of early warning and response systems to both human and animal health emergencies and threats. Event-based surveillance system (EBS), and Kenya animal bio-surveillance disease reporting system (KABS) are some of the early warning tools that I technically lead at the DVS. This is key for timely and efficient response to emerging and re-emerging threats and emergencies and contributes to the global health and food security agendas. I also support the implementation of the National Action Plan against Antimicrobial Resistance both at the national and sub-national levels. Show less

The primary role was to support disease preparedness, prevention, and response activities at the animal-human interface. This was through the design and implementation of priority zoonotic disease surveillance activities with a focus on the linkage of field epidemiology to diagnostics, and prompt data management to inform critical decisions and training of frontline health field personnel.
