The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is the fifth largest school district in the state of California serving a student population of 63,000 and encompassing 320 mi.² of Sacramento County. The boundaries of the district overlays into the City of Sacramento, the City of Elk Grove, and the City of Rancho Cordova and the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. I worked directly with the Superintendent of EGUSD and the Director of Safety and Security to ensure that law enforcement services were carried out in a manner consistent with the contract, department policy and the Education Code. In this assignment I was responsible for the management, coordination and monitoring of programs related to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB), Student Probation, Crisis Intervention, EGUSD Attendance Improvement Program, and I served as an informational resource to faculty, staff and administrators. I acted as liaison between the Sheriff’s Department and district management, including the Superintendent, the Director of Safety and Security and the EGUSD School Board during contract negotiations. My involvement as a liaison ultimately helped to lead in the renewing and implementation of the current Memorandum of Understanding and a continued contract between SSD and Elk Grove Unified School District.
