Undertook a research project creating a new experimental system to investigate the role of epigenetic priming of enhancers. My project had a particular focus on understanding their role in the activation of genes during pluripotent stem cell differentiation. • Genetics Society Studentship
      • Jul 2021 - Sep 2021

One of 40 students who were awarded studentship funding by the Genetics Society to complete a genetics-based research project over the summer of 2021. I attended the student conference at the end of the project, giving a presentation to the rest of the cohort, as well as senior members of the society, which was awarded first prize. Also, as part of this conference, I engaged in a debate lead by Turi King about how we as a scientific community should deal with the ‘canceling’ of great scientists. Four month bioinformatics placement at the University of Cambridge Department of Pathology. Learned how to use the R programming language for data analysis, using packages such as ggplot2. Also became well practiced in using online resources, such as Stack Overflow and Bioconductor to learn and troubleshoot. Four month laboratory placement contributing to research into human airway epithelial cell expansion with an independent project in the UCL Department of Respiratory Medicine. This was my first experience in an academic lab where I became proficient in basic laboratory skills and performed a range techniques, such as mammalian cell culture, DNA isolation and quantification, lentiviral transduction, immunofluorescence staining, and flow cytometry.
