      Concept: This Game is Just Cubes With Some Physics is my debut into learning how to properly code and develop a game for the first time, the concept was to create a simple game with a simple movement system and collision physics that I could later evolve into something far more in depth and with substanceCurrent Focus and Next Steps: What I've currently done is expand upon the level a tiny bit and also also add a UI that lets the player know they've completed the level with a basic fade-away animated background. I've also updated the controls so that the right and left arrows keys can also be used to control the player object rather than only the "a", and "d", keys. Show less

      Concept: This Game is Just Cubes With Some Physics is my debut into learning how to properly code and develop a game for the first time, the concept was to create a simple game with a simple movement system and collision physics that I could later evolve into something far more in depth and with substanceCurrent Focus and Next Steps: I've since changed the skybox to match the colour of the red fog, simultaneously enhancing the atmosphere and adding difficulty to see obstacles. I've also improved collision physics and the smoothness/overall feel of movement and the game as well as created a game over mechanic that allows the game to restart when the player has collided with an object or fallen over the edge; in addition to that I also added a simple scorekeeper UI text. Unfortunately I am unable to show footage of this as I've come across bugs with the UI not being present within gameplay and the skybox and restart mechanic not being shown within a screencaptured recording of said gameplay. For days I've been looking for a fix and am still out of luck on fixing this. Obviously fixing these bugs is my current focus, once this has been dealt with my next steps and focuses will be adding a main menu and adding onto the current level design and obstacles. Show less

      For this project I intended to recreate a very simple and basic movement system, including collision physics, that could later be applied to any movement based game, whether it be a racing game, a parkour game or something along the lines of Happy Wheels. The game currently uses a cube as the player object, though this may change in the future. So far, I’ve created the physics for the cube itself, set the velocity it moves forward at as well as programmed simple left and right movement controlled by the "a", and "d", keys. I programmed collision physics and created a multitude of obstacles, maneuvering through said obstacles is to currently act as the first level of the game. I’ve also added a sort of fog to cover the obstacles, so it adds a bit of difficulty for the player as well as a very cool atmosphere within the game. The next focuses will be to revitalize the level and gameplay design, adding more, or less, obstacles as needed as well as adding a system that registers whether the player loses or wins. I also intend to later use different models for both the player object and obstacles as right now the player object is but a red cube while the obstacles are black cubes varying in size Show less

      The theme for the Global Game Jam this year was home, or what home meant most to you and my group came up with the concept of a 2D platformer where the main character was a child trying to hold onto memories of home and find what home meant to them. The setting would be the child's home and it would look very dull and grey, almost unfamiliar and frightening in a way. As the player found memories parts of the house would be "restored", in the sense that colour and detail would be sort of re-added to the previously dull and grey rooms.In my group Daniel and Alex were the coders, Mina was doing level design, Joseph was our artist and I was in charge of animations.The attached video shows an example of a couple joint manipulation animations of jumping and walking I had worked on before the decision to use sprite based animations was made and complications getting sprites from our artist arose.
