  I was one of the first foreign employees in Sharp's research laboratories. Initially, I was involved in the development of organic materials for frequency conversion to generate blue laser light. Subsequently, I proposed a novel optical waveguide device for an optical scanner and developed the technology to manufacturer this device in high volume with low cost. As group leader I was responsible for all aspects of the project including project planning, staff management, reporting and liaising with external companies and other departments within Sharp.
