  In collaboration with Department of Bioengineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa • Developed new technologies and products by optimizing the mini emulsion process for 2 technological platforms: biosynthetic processes and drug delivery systems, developing 3 main products (aroma compounds, biopolymers and nanostructured lipid carriers for topical delivery). Co-supervised and trained 2 PhD students, resulting in 4 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 3 conference papers, 4 poster communications, 4 oral presentation and best poster award. • Secured €16k in grant funding through effective leadership as the Principal Investigator of a team of 7 researchers, collaborated in multiple projects with other scientists resulting in 3 peer-reviewed scientific papers in international journals, 1 conference paper, 8 poster communications and 6 well-received internationally recognised presentations. • Managed laboratory functions including organization and maintenance of lab space and equipment, introducing new co-workers to the lab rules, scheduling lab meetings, and securing acquisition of lab supplies within lab budget. Trained more than 10 Masters and PhD students in analytic techniques related with particles, protein and final product analysis. Participated in 6 Master’s Examination Committees.   • Developed novel multifunctional environmentally friendly process, using media and protein engineering. Optimized reactor operational mode by experimental and statistical approach in miniemulsion system (implementation of Design of Experiments). This work resulted in the biosynthesis of 10 aroma compounds, leading to 5 international conference papers, 12 poster communications and 5 internationally recognised presentations. • Collaborated in multiple projects with other scientists (ERA-Eula/0001/2009 GLYMAT and PTDC/QUI-QUI/119210/2010), co-authored and secured funding for the international scientific mission in the area of the enzyme encapsulation in polymeric carriers in Ulm University, Germany (COST-STSM-865-02962). Invited referee for two international scientific journals in area of biocatalysis.• Business acumen skills shown by the completion of the COHITEC (2007) program.
