The bulk of my work revolved around research and writing for the firm's criminal defense attorney. Daily tasks included drafting motions (to quash warrants, suppress evidence, establish lack of probable cause, etc.), court filings, and implementing appropriate legal defenses. Additionally, I provided support to the personal injury department drafting pre-hearing statements of proof, demand letters, and motions for cases in litigation. I performed research and briefed cases for maritime personal injury cases to support claims of maintenance and cure as well as those provided for under the Jones Act. Provided attorneys valuable information through drafting memorandums of law and reviewing pleadings for Bluebook compliance. Show less

In the summer of 2014, I joined Russell & Hill as an administrative assistant to electronically file social security disability appeals and assist in a variety of office tasks. After completing my undergraduate degree in December 2014 I returned in a similar role, however, I was additionally tasked with spearheading projects such as enhancing the electronic filing system and creating a new mail management process. Needing an escape from the post-graduate life, I moved to San Diego in April 2015 until August 2015. Upon returning to the firm, I was put into a more significant position as a direct support to the paralegals and attorneys. Proving my work ethic and ability to learn quickly I was promoted to a full-time paralegal working under one of the named partners in March of 2016. I managed over 160 personal injury cases, provided support to the litigation team when needed, and also maintained the case files for the firm's criminal defense attorney. Show less
