¥ Economic modelling framework illustrating crop value chain and its link to poultry sector as a foundation for the OneFood project socio-economic analysis including identified hazards and their impacts across the value chain (in partial equilibrium). ¥ Contributions to combined GBCL/GBADs model/s with a generalised methodology that links plant and animals across food systems for journal article for joint CABI-University of Liverpool publication. ¥ Develop approach for economic burden estimation for the crop loss envelope derived from the GBCL framework. The OneFood project is a collaborative research initiative involving the Global Burden of Animal Diseases (GBADs) based at the University of Liverpool and the Global Burden of Crop Loss (GBCL) project at CABI. Its primary objective is to address food security challenges within the maize, soya, and poultry industries in South Africa. As a socio-economic consultant contributing to this initiative, my responsibilities include conducting comprehensive socio-economic research and analysis. My aim is to gain a deep understanding of the current conditions, identify challenges and data gaps, and propose effective solutions within the economic value chains of these sectors in South Africa. I specialized in multidimensional research, modeling, and optimization within agricultural systems. My primary goal was to holistically evaluate and enhance their performance, emphasizing biotechnical, environmental, and economic aspects. Notably, I redefined mixed cattle systems through an expedition, spearheaded data collection, and utilized the bio-economic optimization model "Orfee" for virtual experiments. I managed environmental sustainability and project phases while contributing to defining sustainable farming practices. As an educator, I nurtured a passion for sustainable agriculture. My efforts culminated in impactful scientific articles, encapsulating findings and recommendations for the sustainable management of mixed cattle systems. My journey signified expertise in modeling, environmental and economic assessment, education, and publication, all aimed at bolstering thriving agricultural systems. ¥ https://doi.org/10.1016/j.agsy.2019.01.012 ¥ https://doi.org/10.1016/j.livsci.2019.09.009 ¥ https://doi.org/10.1016/j.indic.2023.100259 Show less

My work involved dynamic modelling of dairy farms with the aim of reducing their indirect energy consumption. I conducted environmental and economic assessments, utilizing tools like the Whole-Farm Model IFSM developed by the USDA in the United States and the simulator EDEN developed in France. To evaluate the overall sustainability of dairy farms, I employed a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) approach. Based on the results of these assessments, I proposed practical and effective innovation scenarios designed to minimize both indirect energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the dairy farming sector.
