Providing service, consulting and research for internal and external partners in the application and development of EM methods at the intersection of materials science and biology: • Biological sample preparation for transmission/scanning electron microscopy including fixation, staining, dehydration, drying, resin embedding of (primary) cell lines and tissues, post-staining and ultra-/semi-thin (serial) sectioning • Grid/wafer/stub preparation of various (nano)materials (metals, organics etc.) and/or biosystems (cell/tissue sections, viruses, proteins etc.) for transmission/scanning electron microscopy including correlative/high-resolution/serial section imaging and elemental analysis • EM data acquisition and analysis for (nano)materials and/or biological systems using different transmission/scanning electron microscopes with the possibility of correlative/high-resolution/serial section imaging and elemental analysis, and with a focus on effects of (nano)materials on biosystems and vice versa • Contact person for transmission/scanning electron microscopy and (biological) sample preparation at Empa St. Gallen • Responsible for transmission/(scanning) electron microscope maintenance and user training/consulting • Member of LS2 and Laboratory Operations Team Show less
