A 10 month in-house placement at Strathclyde University involving the formation of two‘firms’ which both look at providing support for short and long term projects from outside companies who can request assistance with various chemistry based problems. Activities included working with companies, school pupils and as part of a team with seven otherstudents and two academics on a day-to-day basis. The projects varied from simple analysis of products to top down synthesis of materials. As part of this job, a business skills class was also taken, including modules on business ethics and social marketing. The clinic also helped sixth year school students by bringing them into the department to carry outanalysis such as IR and NMR for their advanced higher projects.
