  Led the development of the Film, Media and Communications Department and served as Chair of it for 8 years. Directed major grants funded by the W.M. Keck Foundation, 3M Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, AAC&U, among others. Expanded department through creation of a Masters in Fine Arts in Film and Television, with the campus located at Hollywood Center Studios. Led development of Journalism and New Media major at MSMU.I am currently teaching quantitative research to students who are conducting original research projects, and overseeing senior internships, which provide valuable field experience in real-world settings. Have re-focused my attention on invigorating the Sociology Major, developing new professional opportunities for graduates, such as in medical sociology, and applications for GIS technology. The influence of film and media in society remain a strong interest.Prior to creating the Film, Media and Communications Department, served as Chair of Sociology for 10 years and led development of majors in Social Work, Criminology, Gerontology, and Film & Social Justice. Grew the Sociology major and created specializations in the fields of human rights, criminology, family relations, among others. Show less
