Ph.D. research which contributed towards the development of a ground-breaking forecasting system for farmers to combat Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus (BYDV) that ultimately reduced the unnecessary application of pesticides. Work included the identification of virus strains and the maintenance of vector and virus stock cultures with zero contamination. Conducted field surveys to determine the incidence and distribution of strains of BYDV in perennial ryegrass swards.
