  Breaking Free Online is a revolutionary and award winning computerised treatment programme for alcohol or drug problems. Available via any device (PC, Mac, mobile or tablet) and on any platform (windows, iOS, Andoid, etc.), it is the only programme of its type that enables people to recognise and actively address the underlying psychological and lifestyle drivers for their drinking or drug use. It gives them a personalised diagram of their own difficulties, and motivates them to achieve behavioural change by letting them focus continually on the issues that are most relevant to them. Not only does the programme incorporate a wide range of internet-based technology, it brings together different social media formats (social networking, instant messaging, online forums, blogs) in a bespoke communication platform. The online ‘buddy’ system overcomes the issues of isolation, stigma and lack of social support. A truly unique programme that has reinvented the way people access and use psychological therapy through computers and mobile devices, and applies technology in new and innovative ways – such as GPS alerts for people going near risky places where they might drink or use drugs. I specifically took the lead on the design and development of the computerised treatment, and project managed the technical suppliers who built the products (web and mobile applications), resulting in me developing an extensive set of IT skills and knowledge.   In 2003, whilst working in the NHS as a Clinical Psychologist in Primary Care, I wanted to change the way that mental health services were perceived, accessed and used. As such, another psychologist and myself decided to establish Clinical Psychology Associates (CPA), in order to provide a gold standard psychology service for organisations that could not readily access statutory service provision. Since incorporation in 2004, CPA grew to become one of the leading independent and third sector providers of clinical, counselling and educational psychology services in the UK. As the company evolved I provided training, supervision (clinical and management) and mentorship to staff that joined the company. In terms of management, I have been directly involved in all aspects of running an SME, with a team spread out across the UK. This included, keeping up to date with all relevant policies (relating to business, mental health and social care), employment and HR issues, financial planning, legal requirements and fiduciary responsibilities, budgeting, marketing, design, project management, service design and delivery, and account management, amongst other tasks. CPA works with residential organisations, from the largest national providers, to the single independent children’s homes. It also delivers services for mainstream education, health and social care organisations (it has helped to develop therapeutic models of care for national providers of primary care mental health services) and the NHS, Local Authorities and courts.
