State Logistics Coordinator supports the strengthening of state level supply chains for the DfID-funded Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health program in Nigeria. The program covers six states in Northern Nigeria (Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Zamfara) and in addition to providing and strengthening MNCH services, will also include Routine Immunization. The State Logistics Coordinator supports strengthening of the health commodities supply chain and ensure the delivery of program health commodities. Project goals achieved included: 1. Provided technical assistance to the ‘expert review committee’ in reviewing and publishing the 2nd edition of Katsina State Essential Medicines List 2. Designed and developed the ‘MNCH2 Pipeline Monitoring Tool’ which comprises of pipeline monitoring database, distribution to LGA stores, Last Mile Distribution (LMD) templates, central stock status, quarterly stock out rates, and analysis of national pipeline for MNCH2 states 3. Coordinated state-wide review of quantification for 2017 and 2018 for commodities and equipment to be supplied to 204 MNCH2-supported health facilities across the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Katsina State 4. Planned and coordinated the training of 160 health care workers across 40 health facilities on Sustainable Drug Supply System (SDSS) and Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) 5. Coordinated the implementation year 3 MNCH2 renovation of health facilities (14 LGA Medical Stores, 14 LGA Cold Chain Stores, and 9 primary health centers) across Mani, Mashi, Daura, Rimi, Bindawa, Zango, Baure, Matazu, Danmusa, Safana, Kafur, Sabuwa, Kaita, and Danja LGAs. The objective of Supply Chain Management System (SCMS) Specialist position is to provide technical leadership that will ensure reliable availability of diagnostics, ARVs, and OI drugs for HIV treatment, care and support as well as other consumables at designated health facilities in the focus state supported by the USAID-funded PRO-ACT project. Achievements: 1. Successfully coordinated Logistics Management Information System (LMIS) activities across all PRO-ACT-supported facilities in Kebbi State such as; onsite capacity building on logistics management of health commodities, bi-monthly pharmacy and laboratory reporting, By Regimens reports, PMTCT Commodities Bi-Monthly Logistics Data, Regimen Analysis, support for good warehousing practices, quarantine of expiries/waste drive, e.t.c. 2. Efforts were put in place to collate all bi-monthly program reports between 7-15th of every review cycle as specified by the national guidelines. 3. Participated in assessing all project facilities by applying Site Improvement through Monitoring Systems (SIMS) tool at every visit during the Joint Supportive Supervisory Visit (JSSV). 4. Collaborated with JSI/SCMS on review of Last Mile Delivery (LMD) Orders for Kebbi State before resupplies, post-LMD verification and filing Proof of Deliveries (PoDs). 5. Played active roles in monitoring stock statuses of all commodities and ensured commodity security is achieved by avoiding stock outs and expiries. 6. Placed priority in tuberculosis (TB) screening and offering prophylaxis for HIV patients. In this vain, active collaboration with State Leprosy & Tuberculosis Control (STBLCO) Programme was established to ensure regular supply of INH 300mg tablets in addition to supplies of this drug made by JSI/SCMS. 7. Worked with other project management team members to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of the programme (PRO-ACT). 8. Served as the "In-House Abstracts Mentor" of the SCMS Team. Routinely supported waste drive exercise for mopping up expired commodities from health facilities 6. Facilitated capacity building for pharmacy/laboratory focal persons during ART meetings in Kano and Jigawa States and orientation exercise for LGA M & E Officers on HIV/AIDS logistics reports collection 7. Provided technical assistance to Kano State LMCU for the production of 1st and 2nd editions of Quarterly Stock Status Reports 8. Participated in HIV/AIDS Monitoring and Supportive Visits to comprehensive and standalone sites 9. Served as state coordinator for Round 11 Delivery Runs of Direct Delivery and Information Capture (DDIC) model of LMD which covers 23 LGAs in Sokoto State each comprising of 15 health facilities 10. Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for state-level planning, implementation, monitoring and supervision of fhi360-funded pharmacy activities across Kebbi State 2. Advise state government on integrating SIDHAS (project of fhi360) activities into state work plans and budgets for eventual full ownership 3. Active at both the state and LGA levels 4. Master trainer on logistics & supply chain management 5. Master trainer on Pharmacy Best Practice (PBP) 6. Master trainer on 3Is and Medical Prevention Achievements: 1. Successfully coordinated timely transmission of reports (CRRIRF, MSST & PPR) across facilities offering HTC, PMTCT and ART services in the state 2. My posting to Howard University Pharmacists & Continuing Education Center (HU-PACE) served as an eye opener for working with international organizations. HU-PACE was a partner to the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) project implemented by Family Health International (fhi360). While with HU-PACE, I served as a volunteer pharmacist during a rural posting to St. Mary Catholic Hospital, Gwagwalada.
