This project involves a 360° Evaluation of Hate Crime Legislation in Ireland and Proposals for its Reform. My role in this exciting study includes engaging in evaluative desk-based research on international hate crime legislation; the coordination of fieldwork for both myself and the Prinicipal Investigators; and undertaking fieldwork in the form of one-to-one interviews with all key stakeholders impacted by hate crime in Ireland.

The ‘Hjabs and Hat-tricks’ project was initiated by Sports Against Racism Ireland (SARI) in May of 2014. The project aimed to increase both social and civic participation among Muslim women through the medium of football. My role in the evaluation of this projects included the coordination of my colleagues as part of a national and internationally based research team; recruiting of participants; scheduling and completion of fieldwork; thematic analysis and write up of emergent data.

Islamophobia or anti-Muslim racism is under researched in the Republic of Ireland. Thanks to a three year scholarship from the Irish Research Council I am currently researching levels and experiences of Islamophobia in Ireland. My research is ongoing and employs a mixed methods research methodology and has engaged Muslim communities across fourteen towns and cities in Ireland.

While completing my PhD studies in the University of Limerick I was provided with the opportunity to lecture and tutor undergraduate students on introductory sociology and qualitative research methods. In addition to delivering interesting and stimulating course content I also co-coordinated a module; prepared exam material; corrected assessments; communicated with students in person and via the virtual learning environment.
