An initial nomination by the Head and Deputy Head of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering to become Adjunct Faculty Research Fellow was approved after all in September 2013 by an Executive Committee consisting of the Deputy-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Cyprus and the Deans of its 8 Faculties. The University of Cyprus was established in 1989. Despite its brief history, the University of Cyprus has earned the respect of the international academic community and the appreciation of Cypriot society. Joined AIT in July 2002 and played an instrumental role in its establishment as the first faculty member (who actually was also the first to be awarded a joint appointment at Carnegie-Mellon University in USA). At AIT he founded and serves as the Head of the “High Speed Networks and Optical Communication (NOC)” Research Group, which performed advanced research related with telecommunication networks (backbone, access and datacenter networks, as well as 5G mobile networks and photonic technologies); having attracted a record number of R&D projects and funds. Served as Associate Dean of the Institute for 6 years during its growth period and as part of this effort he established all the academic procedures and was co-initiator of 2 novel graduate Programs (MSITT & MBIT). Served also instructor of graduate education and executive training courses on topics related with telecommunication networks, techno-economic studies, business planning and policy/regulations of the ICT industry. The Executive Committee of the College of Optical Sciences at University of Arizona approved in September 2013 a nomination to become Adjunct Professor and elected me to that position. The University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences is considered the largest institute for optics/photonics education and research in the United States. The College focuses on providing solutions for the optics industry worldwide by initiating internationally recognized research programs and offering more than 90 courses in optical sciences. The College offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Optical Sciences and Engineering, Masters and Doctoral degree programs in Optical Sciences, as well as a dual Masters degree in Optical Sciences and Business Administration. Ioannis was Coordinator for the "Next Generation Networks" Working Group of the “Digital Greece 2020 – http://digitalgreece2020.gr/” Forum. Digital Greece 2020 was a horizontal action based on the participation of active citizens from business, education, research and public administration. It gave the opportunity to all interested parties to address policy proposals to the central and local government, representative organizations, as well as the academic-research community with regard to the initiatives that have to be taken and the targets that have to be set for Digital Greece 2020. The Forum aspired to formulate policy proposals in line with the Digital Agenda 2020 of the European Commission that will utilize the current international experience, but will also thoroughly adapt it to the Greek reality. Senior Research Scientist

Ioannis worked at the Photonics Research and Test Center (PRTC) of Corning Inc. as a Senior Research Scientist. His research focused in theoretical and experimental studies related with WDM optical networks. He studied extensively the performance and design issues of metropolitan/regional area optical networks and led successfully several projects. He was then subsequently involved in studies related with transport performance and technology trends in ultra-long-haul optical networks. At Corning Inc. he demonstrated customer-driven and results-oriented spirit contributing to several commercial success stories. In 2002, he received (as lead author) the "2001 Corning Outstanding Publication Award" by Corning's CTO, for research he led as project leader and was presented at the IEEE JSTQE journal. It was one of the few times that such award went to a research team from the optical communications business unit of Corning. Show less
