Clinical supervision for couple therapists recognizes that working with couples can be a very difficult experience for therapists. In many ways, it is more complex than either individual or family therapy because of the highly charged emotions of two individuals in an intimate relationship. I provide support and supervision for therapists seeking to enhance their skills in working with couples, and who also want to accomplish the designation as a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist.

EFT is the only model of couple intervention that uses a systematic empirically validated theory of adult bonding as the basis for understanding and alleviating relationship problems. The generalizability of EFT across different kinds of clients and couples facing co-morbidities such as depression and PTSD has been examined and results are consistently positive. Outcome and process research addressing key relationship factors, such as the forgiveness of injuries, has also been conducted with positive results.

Through research-based interventions and exercises, it is a structured, goal-oriented, scientifically-based therapy. Intervention strategies are based upon empirical data from Dr. Gottman’s study of more than 3,000 couples. This research shows what actually works to help couples achieve a long-term healthy relationship.

I work with couples, families, and individuals to help them find the tools and skills they need to navigate through the rough times. I am a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, which is a research-based treatment for clients seeking emotional connection and fulfillment in relationships. I assist clients to understand emotional pain as they seek emotional safety. I work to help clients understand family of origin issues, identify relationship expectations and logistics, and I help them develop joint goals and visions within their most important relationships. I also supervise and train new therapists seeking licensure, and therapists interested in certifying as an Emotionally Focused Therapist.

The Building a Lasting Connection program is a workshop for couples at any stage of their relationship. The workshop is structured around a relationship pyramid that has five sections including attachment, communication, managing conflict, physical intimacy, and shared dreams. Each section builds upon the last, so the couple is able to conceptualize their relationship as a process of building, growing, evolving, developing and rising up in a collaborative manner. In the program, couples will first be given an overview of the nature of love, and the core concepts of attachment. As the workshop proceeds, attachment remains interlaced with each concept to reinforce the foundational principle of attachment throughout the life of the marital relationship.
