Billy Layne Smith taught me journalism at South Plains College in Texas. He was inspiring, gave wonderful encouragement and was an excellent mentor and teacher.

I was starting a second career as a writer and had returned to college to study journalism. Billy was an instructor then. Between him and Dave Wolforth, I must have learned the trade well since I went on directly to write for the local magazines and newspapers and do an internship in Washington DC. He and Dave invited me back to speak on freelance writing to their classes. I received excellent instruction and am happy to recommend Billy. Nan Rinella Conference Coordinator C.S. Lewis Foundation
