Social Studies Department Chair, Faculty, Psychology and Sociology
-
Aug 2002 - Present
I have held multiple roles at CACC, and I continue to teach in the areas of Psychology and Sociology, where I can utilize my passion for student success to help students learn and grow. More details about my teaching are included below. Serving as Social Studies Department Chair from 2011 to 2014 I managed departmental operations, supervising three full time and 12 adjunct faculty members in this college serving 1200 students, located in a rural area of Alabama. My administrative duties included authorizing expenses, developing the departmental class schedule, and assigning qualified instructors to cover every course. To accomplish this last, I recruited, supervised, and evaluated our department faculty, including multiple instructors holding adjunct status. • Compiled necessary data and participated in analysis for institutional Quality Enhancement Plan in preparation for accreditation review. Honors Program Director, Instructor
-
Aug 2005 - May 2015
In 2005 I was privileged to be selected to develop and launch our initial Honors Program, and I began by researching existing models to find best practice approaches for serving our diverse rural community college student population. Among my contributions to launch the program was authoring the program handbook and marketing materials, I also recruited qualified students through liaising effectively with personnel from area high schools to identify potential participants. Once the program was off and running, I coordinated all of the multiple academic and co-curricular activities, including cultural and educational events, making certain to document student participation and progress. In addition, I performed all of the administrative duties for this program serving well over 400 students. • Trained faculty and staff in components of quality honors experiences providing ongoing mandatory professional development to faculty from all five campuses. • Developed short-term study abroad experiences to multiple international locations as well as major United States cities, offering cultural enrichment to the honors experience. • Spearheaded effort to retain honors seminar course and study abroad component after cancellation of full program.
