My research work involves design and synthesis of short oligonucleotides (DNA) with attached organic chromophore(s) at specific positions. These constructs are suitable for investigating charge transport through DNA in a Donor-Bridge-Acceptor type system; and for generating novel self-assembled DNA-hybrid architectures through controlled hydrophobic and base pairing interactions. My responsibilities includes solution phase synthesis, purification and characterization of organic chromophore(s) and solid phase oligonucleotide (DNA) synthesis, purification (HPLC) and characterization (MALDI-ToF). It also involves steady state spectroscopic (UV-Vis, Fluorescence, Circular dichroism) and morphological (atomic force microscopy, AFM) investigations. Show less

    • Postdoctoral Fellow
      • Nov 2011 - Dec 2015

My Postdoctoral research focus was on investigating dynamic and mechanism of charge transport through DNA hairpin model systems. New chromophore(s) and/or non-natural base analogues; non-aqueous environment was investigated to achieve better efficiency and yield of charge transport and to develop better understanding for designing DNA based molecular devices. Major accomplishments includes tracking the dynamic of intermediate hole carriers using judicially designed chromophore and DNA sequence; achieving wire like charge transport dynamics by changing the aqueous environment around DNA; achieving long range electron transfer through non-natural bases; etc. Show less
