Cardiology Rotation that included 1) Inpatient Rounds in Silver Cross Hospital , obtaining histories, performing physical examinations. Observed case management of some interesting cases of CHF , MI , Cardiomyopathies, Unstable anginas, Cardiac Arrhythmias, Valvular diseases. 2) Preparation of ward rounds. Obtained updates on symptoms from patients directly, Reviewed patient progress notes and latest labs before ward rounds. 3) Examining patients in Outpatient Department -Obtained in-depth medical histories, performed clinical examinations and documented medical notes. Reviewed updated lab results in HMS and flagged actionable findings, typed patient notes and documentation for cardiologists to review and sign later on. Performed regular monitoring of hypertensive and diabetic patients to adjust doses of medication. Counselled patients in detail to modify disease causing behaviours and to prevent complications from chronic diseases. 4) Facilitated case referrals by drafting correspondence and case referral letters to physicians entailing detailed case histories, reason of referral and recommendations. 5) Observed Echocardiograms Reporting - transcribed reports as dictated by cardiologists. Learned to measure Ejection Fraction, Chamber Sizes and Diastolic/Systolic Measurements. Observed wall thickenings, decreased Ejection fractions, Septal defects, pericardial effusion and Valvular Regurgitations. 6) Completed a 2 day hands on training of ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) in Silver Cross Hospital by American Heart Association. 7) Attended weekly CME lectures arranged in collaboration with University of Chicago on latest interventions in Cardiology. 8) Volunteered to distribute goodies, books and magazines to patients of Silver Cross Hospital. Volunteered for awareness sessions to prevent diabetes and its complications (including exercise, obesity control, foot care, dietary modification, hospice care etc.) with the Volunteers Department.
