Dealing and submitting legal warrantee claims regarding new-builds constructed in Meyer Turku shipyard located in Finland, to be delivered for TUI cruises; these warrantee procedures involved the TUI fleet including the 3 latest vessels I worked onboard (Mein Schiff 6, Mein Schiff 1 & Mein Schiff 2). The assessments & inspections encompassed all specified departments for the operation of the ship (Engine, Electrical, AC, Accommodation, Entertainment, Bridge and Deck). The primary purpose was to locate any areas or machinery which presented signs of defects, irregularity and identified as not fit for purpose to be repaired or analysed, in order to implement a remedy, ensuring it’s long-lasting operation in service, as originally intended in accordance to legal insurance documentation.During this time, I have gained expertise in the utilisation of the insurance claim software, Primarily JIRA (issue & project tracking software). This was used to analyse claims created, closed and assessing the progress in repairs by the shipyard. In line with this I would regularly update the heads of each department, shore side HQ office in Miami of progress onboard, keeping open communications with Ship Manager/Superintendents and Shipyard representatives.Expertise was gained regarding pressing issues in the fields of Engine, Electrical, AC, Deck, Bridge technical departments, as well as Hotel, Entertainment and Accommodation operations such as galleys.

    • 3rd Engineer, TUI Cruises
      • 2017 - 2018

Operating onboard Mein Schiff 6 where expertise was gained in overall engine space maintenance/safety protocols, specifically in operating the modern AWP (Advanced Wastewater Purification Systems), latest AEP(Advanced Exhaust Gasses Cleaning Plant), Oil systems, Oil fired boilers & water production. Advanced familiarity gained of Wartsila 12V46F, 8L46F Diesel Electric Engines, tending to their operating/maintenance procedures. Extensive Watchkeeping experience gained throughout this period.

I continued to work alongside 3rd engineers, motorman when undertaking day man and duty rounds as required whilst on board to increase my experience with the systems in order to prepare myself for the responsibility as a 3rd engineer after obtaining my COC qualification. My duties consisted of undertaking watch keeping to learn the ships layout and systems on board, this was achieved by working with the motorman as I was placed as an oiler in this period of time to take sounding readings of tanks and important parameters of all systems on my rounds and recording them in the ECR. I would also report or resolve any problems found whilst doing round of engine compartments and starting, stopping systems as required by the 2nd engineer also when coming into port or leaving port requested by ships procedures. Whilst on board I was promoted temporarily as a Sanitation engineer due to lack of staff replacement in this period, I learnt all the sanitation systems on board involving domestic water supply, hot water supply, all pools and feature system procedures and regulations to be followed. Whilst working alongside the 3rd engineers I learnt about the AWP (Advanced Wastewater Purification Systems) on board, the procedures to follow and the importance of maintaining the system at all times. I was also involved with the 3rd engineer for oil systems, by learning maintenance schedules and repair procedures of many different types of mechanical system on board in order to keep the vessel running at all times.

I worked as intern in the technical department, Marine operations of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, in the Weybridge Office in Surrey. As part of my work (assisting the ship managers), I collect data and information from a variety of sources which have to be further evaluated and integrated in order to provide valid engineering solutions to practical problems; Such as, optimizing the fuel consumption of the diesel engines, that drive the electrical generators in relation to the achieved speed of the vessel in knots through the electrical propulsion system. Or establishing a new operational procedure manual, for the inspection and maintenance of the nozzles within the fire extinguisher’s automatic detection system, aboard the cruise ships. Structural analysis of the metallic frames, of doors in the upper structure of the ship, employing finite elements methods (ANSYS), regarding the appearance of cracks on the frames and issuing the appropriate method to repair them.
