It was a pleasure working with Doug when I was on the Town of Cary's Greenway Advisory Committee from 2007 to 2012. He came to meetings prepared with the info we needed to discuss upcoming projects, and he listened to everyone on the committee and considered their points of view. Doug also effectively guided us through the process of deciding which projects to prioritize for funding based on his work experience and knowledge of how projects and their funding worked, and he made recommendations that set up future projects for the best possible chance of being completed.

During my 19 years at the Town of Cary, I have been fortunate to contribute to the development of one of the premier park systems in North Carolina. Whether walking/running on 80 miles of greenway, playing at one of 31 parks or attending an event at one of the major venues Koka Booth Amphitheatre, WakeMed Soccer Park, USA National Training Center, Cary Tennis Park, citizens have a park system that provides it all. Responsibility for this incredible system goes to 76 dedicated staff. They come to work each day ready to serve Cary citizens and always with a smile. Recent accomplishments have included:• In 2016, Town of Cary was awarded the National Gold Medal Award by the National Recreation & Parks Association for excellence in parks and recreation management. In addition, the Town was awarded the Excellence in Youth Sports National Award by t the National Alliance Youth in Sports for exemplifying excellence in managing our youth sports programs.• Completed comprehensive departmental re-organization in 2015 for the first time in 25 years.• Earned re-accreditation status for the Department (for the 3rd time) in 2013 by CAPRA and met 100 percent of the 144 standards.• Obtained Council approval in 2013 for the update of Public Art Master Plan.• Obtained Council approval in 2012 for 15-20 year, $287 million comprehensive PRCR Master Plan. • Coordinated proposed 60 million expansion to Cary Tennis Park to attract national non-profit agency. (2013)• Developed project package for $16 million parks bond approved by voters. • Coordinating over 81 active capital projects totaling $89 million.• Initiated new Specialized Recreation Program in 2013.• Currently developing new registration system based on Salesforce platform which will be the first in the country.• Currently manage four major venues that have contributed over $30 million in economic impact to the region the past five years.
