Looking back on my time with Manalive, I am supremely proud to have been a part of this great and necessary endeavor. First of all, the internship gave me a chance to gain knowledge in everything from excel to conducting yourself in a business environment. This well-rounded, hands-on experience has made me feel much more prepared to start a company of my own down the road. Most importantly, the relationships I have gained are invaluable and will genuinely help shape the rest of my life. Conversations with Doug, Tim, interns, board members, and our guest speakers have inspired great reflection in my own life and opened doors for me that I had never even considered. I am privileged to have been surrounded by such an unbelievably accomplished and inspiring group of people, and am not sure how I earned the right to be a part of such a wonderful team. To give specific insight the value of my time with Manalive, a lot of the time I would finish a meeting, and spend a half hour just reflecting on what was said, and finding that kind of depth in this tragically shallow world is nearly impossible. Manalive’s mission is to "nourish the soul of the common man, and this goal has been accomplished before even making a single film. As a common man, I am thankful from the bottom of my heart for the much needed nourishment of my soul and for making me feel like a man, alive.

Doug is a true servant leader, and the success he has had in his unique career thus far is a testament to his integrity, respect for diversity, cross-cultural understanding, strategic insights, and, most importantly, firm commitment to ensuring those he leads have the tools they need to be successful. It was these characteristics that first led me to recruit him to American Express over 10 years ago, to have Doug partner with me again in 2015 on a demanding organizational startup at Capital One, and which will continue to serve the work in which he is engaged extraordinarily well. I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with Doug, and I know that he will continue to have a positive impact in his career, wherever it takes him.

I have known Doug for over five years both personally and professionally. He is the consummate professional and jack of all trades. Doug is successful in austere, international situations as well as in more traditional, corporate environments. It is a testimony to his maturity, intelligence, and strong interpersonal skills honed over a career of many varied and challenging positions. On a personal level, Doug possesses a strong moral compass and can always be counted on to do the right thing. I highly recommend him for any position that requires mental dexterity and strong leadership skills where trust is of the utmost importance.
