I was the Feedstock Procurement Specialist for their Biogas Plant called the Bronkhorstspruit Biogas Plant. The biogas plant turns organic material into methane through a thermophilic anaerobic digestion process, the methane is then combusted to generate renewable energy. I was tasked with procuring 250 tons of feedstock per day to meet our daily power average of 4.6MW. I source 90% of the organic material from the food manufacturing industries' waste by using waste companies to deliver it to me 24 hours a day, 365 days a week. I was also tasked with distributing the digestate (waste from the biogas plant), I used the local farmers to collect the digestate and guide them on the best application rates for them to grow lucerne which they then sell. I also assisted all project start ups, ensuring that all the correct licensing is in place, that there is enough food waste in the area and that we would comply to all legislation. Show less

I started to work for Oricol Environmental Services (waste management company). Here I was tasked with sourcing organic waste, processing it to a standard that it was allowed to be sold as an animal feed additive. I managed the processing facility with 12 staff and two assistant managers under my instruction. I developed a viable market and sales routes for the company by developing relationships with local farmers. The company is now the market leader in the re-sale of organic waste as animal feed. I was also then tasked with taking all forms of waste and turning them into a sellable resource. Show less

I started my career on a poultry farm for Astral Foods (the largest poultry producer in Africa) as an assistant breeder/broiler farm manager. The senior farm manager was tasked with the overall profitability of the farm, where he handled the high-level operations such as the finances. I was tasked with the day to day running of the farm and my responsibilities were but not limited to daily feeding of 210,000 chickens, egg collections, mating ratios, disease, and pest control, managing the 75 staff members including payroll, growth rates and ensuring the cold chain management of 1 million eggs per week was performed to perfection as this determined the hatchability of the eggs at the central hatchery.
