Instrumentation and Controls Designer

• Leads the controls design on projects requiring wiring schematics and/or panel layouts from concept to build • Work alongside an engineer(s) to o Interpret design specifications and user requirements o Obtain and utilize datasheets for components to show complete wiring details in the schematics o Select panel components required for all panel/enclosure/rack designs o Develop and/or review wiring schematics and control panel layout drawings o Create and modify P&IDs o Create electrical power & lighting plans • Creates design packages in AutoCAD Electrical that closely follow our standards and best practices • Reviews own designs as well as team’s work for completeness and accuracy • Very few errors found in designs and drawings when reviewed by others • Work with suppliers and internal Purchasing to procure instrumentation and controls equipment for projects • Create work orders and coordinate control panel manufacturing with our Manufacturing facility, including scheduling drawing releases with shop personnel • Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) and system functionality tests • Assist with scope of work documents and wire pull schedules for contractors to use in bidding and construction • Assist ACS Manufacturing Facility regarding design details • Regular communication with Manufacturing to ensure strong ties to design process for best overall design and drawing standards • Assist with I/O checkout, troubleshooting, and instrument calibration General • Adheres to and is and advocate for the standards applicable to our group. • Works with managers to resolve repeat technical issues and develop standards and practices to avoid/resolve these issues in the future. • Works on multiple projects in a given time period • Manage the controls drafting labor hours on projects to stay on budget and on schedule • Assists in training others in the use of ACS standard design practices • Provides design oversight and assistance to base level designers
