- Providing advice on housing and welfare issues to migrants (our "visitors") during our Wednesday drop-in sessions, and managing a caseload of visitors to help bring them out of destitution and into secure living environments. For some visitors, this requires longer-term, and ongoing support as their immigration cases (and therefore, legal entitlements) develop over time. - Coordinating Hackney Migrant Centre's housing and destitution casework overall , as well as the casework of volunteers in our team.- Completing asylum support applications on behalf of our visitors, and advocating on their behalf to challenge subsequent issues such as delays, missed or incorrect asylum support payments, and unsuitability of accommodation offered.- Preparing some pre-action work needed to challenge decisions and actions taken by the Home Office and Local Authorities. - Liaising with public law/community care and housing law firms to make referrals for legal proceedings such as judicial review.
