I have had the good fortune to know Don for years, while he was working at Rowan Medical Center and as a leader of the Haymarket facility for Novant Health and we worked together on many large clinical and operational projects. Others have outlined some of Don’s accomplishments while I would like to emphasize his strong leadership abilities and understanding of how to create effective teams in implementing complex clinical programs that drive better patient care. Don is an intelligent, committed individual that knows how to partner with members of the healthcare team and drive results. Don Sedgley and I spent more than two years together forming a close partnership as we worked towards making Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center a remarkable location for patient care. Under his leadership, we introduced Epic as the EMR for the acute facility, created a robot surgical program and successfully achieved MBSAQIP certification for our bariatric surgery program. In addition to these accomplishments, Don developed a surgical strategy council to help guide surgical growth at the facility which continues today. All of this was achievable because of his natural ability to develop lasting relationships with physicians and team members, his honesty, integrity and loyalty to those with whom he works and his desire to achieve excellence. It is my pleasure to call him my friend and colleague.
