NANO: Design of nanostructured materials and nanomedicines. Since early 2023, I have contributed to the scalable synthesis of Ag nanocubes/Au nanocages and nano-colloids for disease detection/screening (e.g., ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces). https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=tBlBLcgAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao (H-index: 25; Citation: >2000) Since 2018, I have mentored over 20 students, including those at the doctoral, master's, undergraduate, and K-12 levels, with diverse concentrations such as biomedical engineering (BME), chemistry (CHEM), chemical engineering (CHEME), materials science and engineering (MSE), polymer materials science and engineering (PMSE), clinical medicine (CMED, Orthopedics), and dental medicine (DMED, Stomatology). The projects encompass a wide range of subjects, spanning from nanoscale to macroscale and encompassing fundamental scientific research, practical applications, and clinical trials. My mentees' research outcomes (I contributed as the corresponding author for papers or the lead author for patents) have been published in many reputable journals such as Chemical Engineering Journal, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Acta Biomaterialia, and others. They are currently engaged in their studies or employment at highly prestigious institutions or companies such as the University of Chicago, NIH, Zhejiang University, Dow, Huawei, Wanhua, etc. Show less

MACRO: Rational design and applications of polymers and soft hydrogels.I pioneered the concepts of (i) fully polymeric antifreezing hydrogels, (ii) macrophase separation strategies for rapid preparation of bilayer hydrogels, and (iii) allochroic polyzwitterionic materials. I have a strong publication record, with over 90 peer-reviewed articles to my name. Among these, I have authored more than 30 research articles as the first author in renowned flagship journals such as Matter (Cell Press), Materials Today (Elsevier), Advanced Materials (Wiley), ACS Macro Letters (ACS), Journal of Materials Chemistry A/B/C (RSC), and many others.
