Executive Assistant

Jun 2014 - Jun 2019
I was the Executive Assistant to the Owner of the company. My Sweet Sanity was a baking and craft blog that I worked for. I managed social media posting for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. My Sweet Sanity, which is the Blog name, maintains 10,000-25,000 engagements monthly, and had recipes go viral regularly. This opportunity, which in hindsight I’m so grateful for, because it allowed me to understand marketing in this new technological, interconnected world. This was an internship funded by the National Science Foundation in an effort to continue fossil preparation and analysis on specimens found within the Jurassic Hanson Formation in the Transantarctic Mountains. The first step of this internship was focused on fossil preparation of the specimens found by Dr. William Hammer in Antarctica over the past few decades. I was educated in proper laboratory etiquette as well as correct fossil preparation technique. I personally prepped the 7 teeth specimens that were subject to my internship project. The specimens were then measured based on a variety of parameters. These measurements were then inputted into the software program PAST, where the morphometrics of the teeth could be calculated. A mold and cast was made of the specimens because they were cut to examine their enamel structures. The enamel structures were seen using a Scanning Electron Microscope at The Field Museum. This project would later develop into my Senior Inquiry, which is a graduation requirement at Augustana College. The project is entitled, "Variety and Identification of Theropod Teeth from the Jurassic Hanson Formation in the Transantarctic Mountains."

My responsibilities included detailed preparation of fossils from the Jurassic Hanson Formation in Antarctica. The majority of preparation time was dedicated to a (speculated) left femur of a presumed Cryollophosaurus ellioti, a crested head theropod. Moreover, the remainder of my time was spent working on my senior inquiry. My senior inquiry is entitled, "Variety and Identification of Theropod Teeth from the Early Jurassic Hanson Formation of the Central Transantarctic Mountains."This summer focused on processing my Scanning Electron Microscope images through the program, ImageJ. After I gathered that data, I began analyzing my research and formulating conclusions.
