I feel few people have the opportunity to report to someone in the electrical industry who is a coach, mentor and project management specialist but I did when I worked with Dominic LaBarbera; as a foreman / superintendent and later general superintendent at BHICO in North Dakota as well as Capra Group in Montana. He was the area manager in both area's setting up spans of control by interviewing and hiring all the personnel. Also setting up teams and leadership while managing a fluctuating 80+ transient workforce personnel in some of the harshest environments for years. Dominic did it all the while investing in helping his team not just to survive but thrive. He set up leadership and QA/QC training for those interested as well as purchased journeyman test prep books to help many test and achieve their licenses. He always invested personally in the teammates pushing them to be the best version of themselves. I regularly witnessed his ability to adapt and overcome issues with teammates, work environment and clients most always ending up in a Win Win for all involved. His out of the ordinary thinking on leadership, prefabbing, engineering, facilitating and value engineering for many clients was sought after by everyone who worked with him. He was always willing to support the apprentices by teaching for IEC and share his knowledge and experiences in the industry with anyone who wanted it even if it was to replace him. He said all the time for everyone to train their replacement if they want to move up. He led by example in doing this several times. I had the honor and enjoyment of learning from one of the best in this industry and because of this Dominic has my highest recommendation!

Emotional intelligence has become a common catchphrase for business, the desired skill set for anyone in a leadership position. Dominic LaBarbera not only brilliantly exhibited emotional intelligence in this sought-after skill set but also executed and embedded it into his process when mentoring and training his electrical division team. We worked alongside one another in separate departments. At the same time, I witnessed Dominic expertly fulfill the electrical division project manager role for Capra for just over a year. However, in that short time, he was presented with multiple, complex, extraordinary circumstances and dilemmas, some of which were unprecedented in our history. Unwavering, Dominic continued to grind away to get to the heart of issues, develop, support, cultivate cross-investments into the culture of his team, the organization, and the clients. What also impressed me is that Dominic is always eager and open to grow and expand his abilities and skill sets in the opportunities available to him. Any organization with access to this diamond in the ruff would benefit from obtaining him in their organization!
