When David recruited me to work for him at Imagine MKE, he kept using the term "joyful abundance." That was the culture he sought to build, and he was looking for others to join him - not just working, but embodying that ethos. If we could keep focusing on how full we are, and the possibility we hold, and hold that with joy - then that could be our way of changing the mindsets and practice of our field which could lead to more collaboration and impact. I experienced that most in the way he supervised me, and led our team. Yes, it's understood that we will work hard and be accountable to those who've invested in our startup - but we are also expected to be curious, and learn and experiment, and then apply the learning from that experiment. Perhaps most importantly, how we do this matters - somehow holding both audacity and vulnerability. It was not just a joy to work there, but it was also a joy to help build that culture with him. That's what its like to work with David - you're seen, and you're invited. Should you get that invitation to work with him, I strongly urge you to accept it.
