Undergraduate Researcher
-
Sep 2015 - Sep 2016
I worked under Professor Saintillan on studying and simulating electrohydrodynamic behavior of colloidal suspensions in incompressible flow. Working closely under the supervision of the Ph.D students in the group, I was able to code a routine in Fortran that showed relative movement of N particles, simulated as solid particles and their interactions in a 3-D Plot in Matlab. The final code that handed over did not account for the full behavior of the point forces exerted due to resolution difficulty of the code, but did present available work for Professor Saintillan and his research group to continue with if so desired. As a member of the group, I participated in a number of weekly meetings and presented to the group on the progress of my research. I was also allowed to attend the 2016 Fluids Conference that was held at UC Irvine and learned a lot about current research in theoretical fluid mechanics. Show less

Water Quality Science and Reseach Student Engineer I
-
Jun 2015 - Sep 2015
As a student engineer, I was involved with four main projects. Under the supervision of three mentors, I completed my work, all currently property of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Building Plumbing Internal Corrosion Control and Diagnosis -Analyzed the mechanism of galvanic corrosion found within plumbing infrastructure -Recommended direct chemical addition treatment to inhibit internal corrosion -Compiled data to write a technical report on the origin of such problems and treatment options -Presented findings to the Water Quality Division Groundwater Modeling QA/QC -Worked with consultants from Lytle Water on developing a groundwater model -Performed checks on groundwater well locations in areas servicing the county of Los Angeles Tank Light for Nitrification Control Pilot Study -Provided feedback for design parameters with Arcadis for pilot study to start in November 2015 -Wrote informal report describing the mechanisms of nitrification to aid in determining dominant parameters for inspection. Chemicals of Emerging Concern Data Tabulation -Helped Environmental Engineer in obtaining and organizing contaminant data from many waste water treatment plants in Los Angeles -Wrote informal report on the origin of common Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals(EDCs) and Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products(PPCPs) and toxicological/epidemiological limits as provided by the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) Show less

Trace Explosives Detection Intern
-
Jan 2015 - Jun 2015
Focal point for the work done at Implant Sciences focused on developments of a dual mass spectrometry and ion mobility spectrometry detection system for improvements in sensitivity, accuracy and reductions in false alarm occurrences. My responsibilities include: -Assisting system testers in sampling nanoscale amounts of explosive compounds to characterize detection performance over time. -Analyzing generated data for system troubleshooting and testings to optimize system test parameters. -Independent work without supervision with testing procedures (circa. April 2015) to assess the performance of the system with different membrane settings to see if better configurations existed. -Trained new intern in daily procedural work and operations of the workspace to prevent injury and shorten standby time.
