I am principally responsible for digital marketing, including writing copy and newsletters, and managing social media platforms. We have seen great uptake in social engagement and reach since I began working here part-time in August, and I have been a part of many successful digital campaigns and events. I worked across several brands and restaurant accounts, developing PR timelines and schedules, writing press releases and copy, reaching out to journalists and refining social media strategies. I became familiar using various tools and programmes such as Sprout Social, Asana and Zoom. My work here was sadly cut short as a result of the Covid-19 crisis as I was a new team member and couldn’t be kept on. DSP is a small boutique investment management firm operating the Melchior range of funds focusing on equities. Here I worked alongside first the Sales and Client Services team, with whom I attended many client meetings and conference calls. I later joined the Private Client, Global Asset Allocation team on an extensive project creating an Italian family office map using my language skills to aid the Head of Italian distribution, Andrea Di Nisio. 1:1s with each department of the firm to understand more intrinsically the way the company works together. Research project on the European Absolute Return Fund, how the portfolio is managed, how the shorting strategy hedges risk fluctuations and the specific stock selection process. Show less

An informative and valuable insight into Asset Management and Longview’s particular stock selection strategy. I took part in an in-depth educational programme led by a Senior Research Analyst, Luke Taylor, where I developed skills in research and qualitative analysis, worked with a team and conducted my own research of the intrinsic value of Omnicom company, through analysing its balance sheet, income statement and cash flow. The time spent at Schroders was a challenging and fascinating introduction to the financial industry. I was given an overview of the way the business works through meeting people in different departments, fund managers, sales and marketing, legal and wealth management. Working directly with a portfolio advisor allowed me to get a broad insight into the Wealth Management services of a major global asset management company. • Improvement of my numeracy and computer skills through company analysis on Microsoft Excel. • Practice in reading analysis and predicting the impact of the day’s news on the market and the various portfolios on which we were working. This largely involved looking at fluctuating oil prices and their macroeconomic impact. • I was given high and low risk prototype portfolios to work on through bottom-up stock selection. As an art historian I found close attention to detail and analytical skill to be critical and useful. Show less

Working at Farrers in the Private Client department proved to be a rewarding experience as I was exposed daily to the legal and tax matters relating to principally UK-domiciled individuals. I was given responsibility for writing up Deeds and Wills as well as scheduling and going to the Royal Courts of Justice to search the archives for records in the Probate registry. I learnt a lot about the practice of Law during this experience. Two weeks working in the Post-War and Contemporary Art department was an invaluable experience for me. With my strong background in History of Art it was fascinating to be exposed to the corporate side of that world for the first time. Christie’s relies heavily on volunteers during the summer so I was given responsibilities straight away including: • Inventorying the store for the major upcoming sale as well as creating and managing a database of the catalogue of works for potential buyers • Researching and collating disparate information into specialist reports to draw in and inform buyers • Researching and compiling a dealer directory of interested parties with contact information in order to maximise interest for each work Show less

My internship in the Beijing office of an international accountancy firm was invaluable to helping my numeracy skills. Working in the Marketing and Sales Department, I also developed my literary skills writing for the in house magazine and my computer skills working on the design for the new website which was soon to launch. Both of these helped me gain a deeper understanding of what LehmanBrown does in helping large corporations navigate the idiosyncrasies of Chinese bureaucracy. Working in such a different culture was an engaging and formative experience and the understanding I gained about the world of accountancy in such a rapidly developing world market as China was exciting training for the financial world. During my Gap Year I spent five months working within the Events team at the Baglioni Hotel. Working in catering requires good organisation and time management and I became a swiftly trusting and effective member of the team working my way up to become a shift leader. Whilst working with many different cultures and dealing with some very demanding clients I honed both a sense of teamwork and learned some important leadership skills. It was a valuable experience for me and I earned the money to finance my year out. Show less
