Dirk is this unicorn in IT land. A highly skilled technical ICT technician with very good social skills and tons of patience. He's always kind and supportive, without being condescending or letting you walk all over him. He is a great listener and conversationalist, and can give solid advise, support and opinion where needed. He can think way out of the box if needed and gets the job done, whatever the challenge. He has plenty of knowledge of many ICT systems and processes, and what he doesn't know he figures out, or looks it up. In no time he can master most, if not anything you throw at him. He's precise, careful (testing testing testing) and thorough in his work. From conception of an idea right up to documenting anything he works on. He is a true asset and a great guy in any ICT position. I'd work with Dirk again in a heartbeat.
Matt Mitchell
Dirk is a kind, understanding, and supportive leader with a strong focus on having an aligned and effective team. He makes every effort to bridge the needs of his employees and the organization as a whole. Dirk also has in-depth technical knowledge gained through years of experience in IT and is adept at research to keep up to speed with new developments in his field. I would gladly recommend him as an asset in project planning, database administration, systems integration, and IT team leadership.

Responsible for the entire IT infrastructure with 2 Canadian offices and 1 international office in the making. The task at hand was taking the existing phone and IT infrastructure and creating an enterprise level functioning infrastructure. While training and coaching a team of 2 IT personal and 4 data analysts, these are some of the projects completed and in the works: • Mapping out the complete infrastructure, as there was no documentation; and designing the infrastructure we need to work towards. • Designed and rebuild the Toronto & Montreal Datacenters. • Creating all IT documentation and procedures for the company • Managed several internal audits an ISO certification and multiple external vendor audits. • Coaching the IT team to setup WDS and MDT to facilitate the reinstallation of computers with only 10 minutes hands-on time for IT staff. This to facilitate the move from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for all the workstations. • Setting up a monitoring system, which alerts the IT team of anything not functioning optimally. This allows time for investigation and to restore proper levels of service before most users are aware that there is a problem. • Creating a Disaster Recovery Procedure for the full IT and telephony aspects of the company. • Configuring and setting up a backup strategy and process to test the functionality of the backups in a LAB environment. • Introducing an IT ticketing system to track all IT requests following pre-created approval procedures track the time spend for the SLA reporting. • I’m in the process of installing new clustered firewalls to eliminate a single point of failure and reduce the downtime for the organization. Naturally there are the usual tasks regarding researching and purchasing new workstations and servers. Investigating improvement areas and tracking risks and projects. The needs of a growing organization never stop and neither do my ideas for fixing the problems on hand and improving existing processes. Show less

Responsible for the whole IT infrastructure locally and globally. As a team, we manage the complete enterprise level infrastructure and have everything running on an in-house VMware datacenter. This includes a 2nd failover datacenter, daily/hourly backups and off-site backups. The environment is 95% Microsoft based encompassing Active Directory/Exchange/SQL/Sharepoint/Skype for Business/Dynamics AX/CRM, etc. Maintenance and upgrades are managed and maintained by the team. Micrososft Dynamics AX has been and still undergoes regular upgrades and feature expansions. We upgraded from AX2012 (version 0) to version AX2012 R3, expanded functionality by switching to a multi company setup (as we have branch offices in Istanbul and Germany that needed to be converted into separate companies). Implemented Bottomline Transform to have more control over the layout of the different documents we generate. Implemented ECM (Enterprise Content Management) to more efficiently manage documents within AX as well as outside AX interdepartmentally. Implemented Readsoft to work towards a paperless Invoice Workflow in AX. When I started in November 2014 at the Mimaki EMEA headquarters in Amsterdam they had 80 people on staff divided over the headquarters in Amsterdam and 2 branch offices (in Paris and Istanbul). The company has expanded steadily over the last 3 years, with 2 extra branch offices in Germany and 2 in Italy, plus an ink factory in Amsterdam. We remotely manage all the IT infrastructure at the branch offices and fly there if major hardware upgrades are needed. For example, I’ve executed the relocation of the Istanbul office complete IT & telephony infrastructure. Working as 2nd in command in a team of 2 (which recently expanded to 3 man strong); we provide our expertise to maintain 40+ servers, 160 workstations, telephony and provide user support for now 180 people divided over 8 locations. So much more to say but no more space to write...(for more info see attached Doc) Show less
