The McNair Scholars Program at SSU helps 27 undergraduate students per year prepare for and get accepted into graduate school. The primary objective of this program is to place more historically underrepresented students in Masters and Ph.D. programs.Currently in the process of looking for a research topic process under the guidance of Dr. Ortega in Mathematics.

Research Assistant for MERG

Students in the Mathematical Epidemiology Research Group (MERG) will complete a literature search of the available coronavirus resources including background epidemiology of, mathematical models for the spread of, and economic models of the effects of coronavirus. Special attention will be paid to disproportionate economic effects, morbidity, and mortality along lines of socio-economic or cultural lines. Students will be required to attend weekly 90-minute research group meetings and give one presentation every other class meeting time. The final product of this fall semester's research group will be an annotated bibliography. Each individual student will submit a final poster, poster presentation, and a draft of a research grant, scholarship, or fellowship application to a program related to our research in coronavirus this semester. • The MSRI-UP (Mathematical Sciences Research Institute – Undergrad Program) is a comprehensive summer program designed for undergrad students where 18 students are selected to complete research in mathematical sciences. • Students of 3 are researching on Parking Functions and the concentrations of its topic via Algebra, Combinatorics, and probabilistic methods. • Students were able to create and publish a research paper and poster and present their research at national conferences • Students were able to conduct collaborative research under a mentor and attend professional development colloquiums to hear from other professors and researchers in the field of mathematical sciences • Students were able to attend workshops aimed at developing skills and techniques needed for research careers in the mathematical sciences Show less
