I started Amai in 2011, opening a fairly large salon space with Hairdressing sections; a nail bar; tanning booth and beauty rooms. I employed and managed a team of around 15 people, from stylists to therapists and nail technicians. It wasn’t long before we had 2 salon locations. The salon itself was opened during the start of the social media boom and so this was a skill I very much used to our advantage. The salons Instagram following was strong with 15,000 followers and a huge pull for influencers and bloggers. This contributed to both the salons success and my skillset as I had an advanced understanding of using social media to grow my business. The salons Nail bar was featured in various industry publications and also nominated for Nail Salon of the Year in 2014 by Scratch Magazine. In 2013 I was awarded ‘Nail Entrepreneur of the Year’ from nail giant Sweet Squared . I also wrote a monthly column for Scratch Magazine about business tips and ideas for your nail business - this was for around 1.5 years. In 2015 I spoke on the business stage at Olympia Beauty - where I shared my story and advice with fellow business owners. The first salon sold due to regeneration in the area and the second was sold in 2020 to a buyer wanting to take on the business. The skills I learned over this time were unmeasurable. I managed staff; clients; columns; finances; budgets; social media - as well as driving the business over every hurdle to success. Although it was definitely a challenging experience it was also my best achievement. Show less
