A permanent laboratory position in the Department of Haematology- Daily use of the Abbott Alinity h-series haematological analyzer for determination of general blood test parameters: white cell type, red blood cell type and platelet count. Troubleshooting for analytical issues derived from damaged samples e.g. containing blood clot or inadequate quantity etc.- Extensive use of the Sysmex haematological analyzer and stainer for measuring general blood test parameters.- Everyday handling of the Siemens BCS XP analyzer for measuring the following coagulation parameters: QUICK (Prethrombin Time), fibrinogen, aPTT and D-Dimers. Supplementary use of the Siemens BFT II spectrophotometer for measurement of the first three aforementioned coagulation parameters. - Implementation of the wet lab techniques of direct and indirect Coombs. Upon positive result of indirect Coombs, determination of patient serum dilution in which negative result emerges through titration.- Use of the Siemens PFA-100 analyzer for measurement of platelet functionality.- Identification of patient blood group and Rhesus type (positive or negative) in whole blood samples using the classic "smear on a glass" technique.- Handling of pippetes, vortex machines and centrifuges- Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Show less

Experiments on the analysis of elongation translation factors through the Western blot method. An essential part of my Bachelor's thesis conducted at the Laboratory of Biological Chemistry under the supervision of both late Professor Dimitrios Kalpaxis and Professor Georgios Dinos of the Medical School, University of Patras The goal of the thesis was to study the effects of bioaccumulation of 3 heavy metals (copper, mercury and cadmium) on the modification of the expression and function of translation factors eEF2, (p)eEF2 and eEF1A1 at the elongation stage, via mechanisms of induced oxidative stress, in cells of the digestive gland of the Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis). An additional goal was to quantify the oxidative damage, by measuring the carbonylation levels of total proteins, the FWR fraction, as well as the S-100 fraction, of the same mussels' cells after long-term exposure to heavy metals.
