I conducted my teaching practice for the completion of my degree at A.U.Th. During my time spent at the school I had the chance to teach English to students with a variety of social and ethnic backgrounds. I managed to work with students who spoke only their native language, whom I did my best to help feel welcome and appreciated at their new school. Lastly, I had the chance to get a glimpse of the way that a school is run in Greece as well as understand the managerial and organisational skills… I conducted my teaching practice for the completion of my degree at A.U.Th. During my studies I received honors from the National Scholarship Institution for my excellent grades and attendance during the school year 2011-2012. For the imperative 6-month traineeship that one has to complete in order to graduate, I was offered and accepted a place at the British Library in London, at the Digital Scholarship Department (BL Labs). My dissertation with topic “Examining how and why the British Library Labs project will make available out-of-copyright British Library digitised Bookbindings through the online collaborative environment Wikimedia Commons” was written during my traineeship at the British Library. Furthermore, I created a temporary website for the event using an online open management system (wix.com) in order for it to be used during the event while I also used an application called Blippar inside the website. While completing my dissertation I worked with: Ϟ Research and information retrievalϞ Editing and clearing metadata with the use of Microsoft Excel and Open Refine. Creation of an XML file which was necessary on Wikimedia CommonsϞ Use of GWToolset, a new tool provided by Wikimedia Commons and creation of a detailed step-by-step guide on its proper use Ϟ Uploading the British Library’s Digitised Bookbindings Collection on Wikimedia Commons Show more Show less
