Position: Conducting my final Master Thesis Project, entitled, "Safety assessment of trans-boundary and multi-modal hazardous materials transportation: concept development. The LPG and LNG cases". The aim of the project is to develop a safety concept that will facilitate shipping companies in the decision-making processes related to the multi-modal and international hazardous materials transportation considering the aspect of safety. Tasks: - Literature Study on organizational decision-making, risk assessment, hazardous materials transportation. - Empirical Case Study on the mutli-modal and international transportation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the Netherlands and Belgium. -Identification of decisions of shipping companies related to the transportation of hazardous materials, the role of legislation in these decisions, the risk assessment methods used by shipping companies, as well as the identification of important indicators when safety is assessed. -Development and description of a safety concept that acts as a guideline to hazardous materials shipping companies for the choice of the most appropriate risk assessment method when decisions related to multi-modal and international hazardous materials transport need to be made. The team’s challenge was to construct an external skin of photovoltaics which will be applied on an existing Dutch house in order to transform it into a sustainable, energy neutral house, creating simultaneously ideal living conditions inside the house. Position: As a member of the electrical team our main goal was to make the house sustainable in terms of energy needs. In order to do so, we had to minimize the electrical consumption of the house, so that a positive energy balance to be achieved (in combination with the electrical production). Additionally the design of the electrical installation of the house was among our responsibilities. Tasks: -Designing of the electrical installation of the house -Choice of most energy-saving home appliances -Calculation of energy consumption of the house (annual, monthly, weekly, daily) -Calcualation of energy balance of the house (annual, monthly, weekly, daily) Show less

Position: Working on my Diploma Thesis, titled "Inverter Control Techniques of Networks having Distributed Generation Systems in Islanding Mode Condition", supervised by Prof. Labridis Dimitrios, group of Power Systems Lab (PSL) at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) Description: The aim of this thesis is to design and implement in Simulink an inverter control technique on a system consisting of a Distributed Generator, an Energy Storage unit, which plays the role of the grid during the Islanding Mode, and the Load. At the same time the implementation of the control technique should support both the operation during the connection with the main grid and during the islanding mode. The methodology that is followed in this thesis consists of two parts. In the first part a literature review, on Distributed Generation, Voltage Source Inverters, Microgrids and Islanding Mode, is conducted, while in the second part the system of the Distributed Generator, the Storage Unit, the Load and the main Grid, as well as the control technique of the inverter of the Distributed Generator and the Storage Unit are modelled, with the use of Simulink software, and a number of simulations on different loads takes place in order to experimentally verify the right function of the control technique. Results: -Design and Implementation of the Inverter Control Technique on the system for the operation both during grid connection and Islanding Mode -Verification of the correct function of the control technique for all three categories of loads, namely resistive, inductive, and capacitive Show less
