The goal of this work was to estimate the economic benefit of the incorporation of a passive energy dissipation system, considering the costs associated with structural repair and rehabilitation resulting from seismic actions. This was done considering probable failure modes in reinforced concrete structures and the seismic behavior of the structural elements. The analyses were carried out on a 17-story dual configuration structure and compared with one of identical configuration but including an energy dissipating system based on buckling-restrained braces instead of concrete bearing walls.
