Diego opened the doors of the environmental sector and helped me to think out of the box while we share our work in transfair consultancy. His deep commitment and desire to improve were a source of inspiration and respect. I'll allways be gratefull and willing to work together in new projects.

Epicca provides concrete B2B solutions in the use of biopolymer materials for a porfolio of brands in Latin America - from largest corporate names to new, 'lifestyles', trendsetting companies - thus generating demand for green chem technology, especially thermoplastics, coatings, and inks. When our clients decide to go green, we help their supply chain go green as well, building a cluster of innovation around each green chem application that will land on a store shelf. I was asked to analyze the value chain in the production of Yerba Mate (tea) in Argentina and Brazil, and benchmark economic and social aspects of primary production, especially focusing on small producer and field workers. Work included research and a 5000 km. tour to visit production areas. Deliverables are to be handed over to FLO (Fair Trade Labeling Organization) so that Fair Trade standards can be devised for the international yerba mate market. Gebana produces from soybean, corn and bananas, to biodiesel, all with Organic and Fair Trade Certification. Gebana had devised a very complete Good Manufacturing Practice program for its Brazilian branch, but was a long way off from actual implementation and acceptance of quality procedures by staff members. Turning the GMP program into a down to earth plan was my main challenge, which ended in the organization of the Quality Management Team at Gebana Brazil. I devised and implemented a Quality Assurance System to certify Good Manufacturing Practice, integrated with Organic and Fair Trade standards. The result was a very down to earth project built and implemented bottom-up, through strong interaction with company staff and suppliers. ArtePueblo, helped small, poor artisans and producers connect with modern, standardized markets. We not only sourced goods, but also helped artisans and producers in planning and financing, and in issues of production, quality, value chains, and pricing. ArtePueblo retailed mostly through hotels. ArtePueblo built sales experience in Argentina, its domestic market, as well as in the US, Spain, the UK, and Switzerland. Facing an issue as complex as fostering sustainable development in Latin America, Avina was challenged by the need to better assess the impact of its work and investment. Consequently, I carried out a benchmark study in knowledge management and Impact Assessment and Evaluation, with over 30 on-site visits to leading foundations, new philanthropists, academia, multilateral institutions and businesses in the US, UK, Argentina, and Brazil.
